Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurobiological disorder that impacts children, teens and adults. Several national clearinghouses estimate 15 million Americans have ADHD. ADHD is treatable and people can thrive with understanding and support.
Diagnosis and treatment are important because ADHD may contribute to unmet mental health needs. Roughly 40-60% of children and teens are receiving mental health care. Cognitive Behavioral therapy is supported by research to address symptoms of ADHD. Dr. Cantu employs CBT techniques to enhance functioning and reduce symptoms. People are not defined by ADHD but can thrive.
ADHD assessment includes thorough psycho-social interviews, clinical interviews and gathering collateral data. Measures such as the Conners or Brown EF/A scales highlight specific executive functioning needs. Finally, standardized testing related to intellectual and performance may also be relevant to understanding the clinical profile. Dr. Cantu provides assessment for children and adults.
Dr. Cantu provides individual therapy for ADHD. A tailored plan is developed with your unique strengths. CBT interventions are supported by research and targeted to improve functioning in your work, school, or home life. Teens often need improvement in home and school life, while young adults often seek help navigating work or relationship needs.
Dr. Cantu has many years of group therapy experience. Groups are a unique way to acquire and practice skills while feeling supported by others who care about your success. Groups are typically 8-12 weeks and include topics such as time management; procrastination; organization; task completion; daily routines; emotion management and social interactions, among others.
